Cork oak bears thick corky bark harvested sustainably every 9–12 years. Evergreen 15 m with grey‑green leaves and gnarled trunk, native to western Mediterranean. Needs full sun, acidic sandy soil and mild winters (hardy to −8 °C). Drought‑tolerant and fire‑resistant; unique textural specimen or wildlife habitat tree.
