Holly osmanthus is a dense evergreen 3 m with spiny, holly‑like leaves and clusters of powerfully fragrant white flowers in autumn. Slow growing, it forms impenetrable screens tolerant of shade, pollution and drought once rooted. Hardy to −15 °C. Lightly clip in spring for hedges or let it grow free as a scented specimen.
