Black mulberry bears delicious, dark purple berries with rich flavour on a gnarled 10 m tree. Leaves are heart‑shaped and rough. Needs full sun, deep loam and summer moisture for heavy crops; hardy to −20 °C. Fruits ripen unevenly—spread nets to catch drops. Minimal pruning—remove dead wood in winter.
