Deutzias are graceful deciduous shrubs 1–2 m that burst into masses of starry white or pink flowers in late spring to early summer. Arching branches and exfoliating bark add winter appeal. Easy to grow in sun or light shade on any fertile, well‑drained soil, they tolerate urban pollution and frost to −20 °C. Lightly prune after flowering, removing a third of oldest stems to maintain vigour and abundant bloom.
