Brooms (Cytisus hybrids) are airy, deciduous shrubs 1–2 m smothered in pea‑like blooms—yellow, cream, red or bi‑colour—during late spring, often filling the garden with honey scent. Fine green shoots and tiny leaves give a twiggy texture that suits dry, sandy soils and coastal sites. Full sun and minimal fertiliser encourage flower production; prune lightly after flowering, cutting back only green stems, as old wood rarely reshoots.
