AESCULUS x carnea

Red horse‑chestnut is a hybrid tree 10–15 m high with upright panicles of rose‑pink flowers in late spring. Glossy dark leaves resist scorch better than common horse‑chestnut, while brown nuts develop in spiny husks. Hardy to −25 °C and tolerant of clay and urban pollution, it supplies reliable shade and showy bloom as a specimen or avenue tree.
