Holm oak is a tough evergreen 20 m with dark, leathery leaves and rugged bark, forming dense shade. Thrives on coastal wind, drought and poor limestone soils; hardy to −15 °C. Valuable wildlife tree and effective clipped screen. Requires space; prune in winter if shaping.
