Common myrtle is an evergreen 2 m shrub with aromatic, glossy leaves used in Mediterranean cuisine. Starry white flowers in summer are followed by blue‑black berries. Needs full sun, well‑drained soil and protection below −7 °C. Responds well to clipping into hedges or topiary. Water during prolonged drought.
