Japanese privet forms a fast‑growing evergreen screen 4 m with large, glossy leaves and fragrant white panicles in summer. Heat, drought and coastal wind tolerant, it accepts severe pruning. Plant 70 cm apart for hedges; trim three times a year for density. Hardy to −12 °C and attractive to bees when in bloom.
