HYDRANGEA hortensis Annabelle

‘Annabelle’ hydrangea bears spectacular 25 cm snowball heads of pure white on sturdy stems July–September. Unlike mopheads, it flowers on new wood, so cut back to 30 cm each March for giant blooms. Grows 1.2 m high, tolerates sun or shade and alkaline soil, though moisture is essential. Hardy to −30 °C; combine with hostas and ferns for woodland elegance.
