Forsythias are iconic spring shrubs exploding with vivid yellow bells on bare stems before leaves unfurl, heralding the season. Sizes range 1–3 m, all thriving in sun or partial shade and ordinary garden soil. After flowering, prune out a third of old stems to ground level to keep bushes vigorous and flowering low down. Deer‑resistant, hardy to −25 °C and ideal for mixed shrub borders or informal hedges.
