EUONYMUS japonicus

Japanese spindle is an evergreen shrub or small tree 3–4 m with glossy dark leaves, forming dense coastal hedges or clipped shapes. Tolerant of salt, wind and pruning, hardy to −10 °C, it thrives in sun or shade on any reasonable soil. Insignificant summer flowers occasionally set pink‑orange berries. Shear twice a year to maintain a formal outline.
