Elaeagnus × ebbingei is a tough, evergreen shrub 3–4 m with silvery, leathery leaves that reflect light and withstand salt, drought and wind. Small, inconspicuous but highly fragrant autumn flowers fill the air with jasmine‑like scent and ripen into edible orange berries in spring. Forms dense, bird‑friendly hedges in sun or shade on poor soils. Trim in late spring and late summer to size; virtually pest‑free and hardy to −15 °C.
