Leyland cypress is the classic fast‑growing evergreen screen, capable of 1 m growth per year and heights above 20 m if untrimmed. Dense sprays of dark green scale leaves form an impenetrable hedge that blocks wind and noise. Suits coastal sites, urban pollution and most soils except waterlogged clays. Regular clipping 2–3 times a year keeps height in check; start early to avoid bare trunks. Hardy to −20 °C and drought‑tolerant once rooted.
