BERBERIS thunbergii Atropurpurea

Purple Japanese barberry is a compact, thorny shrub 1–1.5 m tall with reddish‑purple leaves that intensify through summer and blaze bright red in autumn. Small yellow spring flowers are followed by scarlet berries that persist into winter, feeding birds. Drought, deer and pollution tolerant, ideal for low‑maintenance hedges, foundation plantings and security barriers.
